Dr. Luiz Henrique de Mattos Pimenta is a neurosurgeon spine specialist with over 30 years of exercise of profession, and today is one of the greatest exponents of Brazil and the world in his area.
Dr Pimenta comes from a family of great doctors. His mother’s grandfather Dr. Henrique Linderberg was a physician trained in Philadelphia, with professional activities conducted at the University of Vienna, Austria, in 1910. The other family branch is his paternal grandfather, Dr. Luiz de Mattos Pimenta, medical professional who was very important for a brazilian city, Itatiba, and even today is remembered for honors in the city. Following this pattenr, his father, Dr. Aluisio de Mattos Pimenta, was founder and professor of Neurosurgery at Escola Paulista de Medicina (UNIFESP today), at Sao Paulo, Brazil.
Born on March 30, 1947, Dr Pimenta appreciates not only the health of their patients, but of himself also. He is practitioner of physical activities, including his favorite, marathon race. He usually dispute several competitions throughout the year, and through a complete and balanced diet can keep health in your hectic day to day, with surgeries, treatments and scientific events.
Through constant learning and upgrading, Dr Pimenta is a consultant for several national and international companies with which develops ideas and products that can better treat the patient, achieving success and satisfaction.
Dr Pimenta studied medicine at the University of São Paulo (USP) and graduated in 1971. After that, he did residency and specialization in neurosurgery at the Federal University of São Paulo – Escola Paulista de Medicina (UNIFESP – EPM, 1971-1977), where he developed his doctorate, getting his PhD in 1980.
In addition, he spent a year in Frankfurt, Germany, in a fellowship program with the renowned neurosurgeon Dr. Rosenthal, which enabled the improvement of their practices in minimally invasive surgery of the spine (1998).
After more than 30 years of medical-surgical, Dr Pimenta hás concentrated in the treatment of various pathologies of the spine with a special focus for the minimally invasive surgical solutions. With that, Dr Pimenta aims the use of treatments that reduce the damage caused by traditional spine surgery, which historically has a reputation to be extremely distressing for the patient.
Two years ago he founded the Institute of Pathology of the Spine (Instituto de Patologia da Coluna – IPC), with the goal of providing a multidisciplinary center and integrated treatment of various pathological spine conditions for Brazilian and even foreigners patients. Today he is the medical director and surgeon at this institution.
Along with his other activities, Dr Pimenta is an associate professor at the University of California, San Diego, USA, former president of the World Spinal Column Society (WScS) and current president (2013-2014) of The International Society for the Advancement of Spine Surgery (ISASS). He is also a member of the most respected societies worldwide spine, Scoliosis Research Society (SRS), North American Spine Society (NASS), the American Association of Neurosurgeons (AANS), the Brazilian Spine Society (SBC) and the Brazilian Society of Neurosurgery (SBN).
TECHNICAL AND SCIENTIFIC PRODUCTION
Since the days of college, Dr. Pimenta has always been very connected to the scientific approach and innovative medicine. Believing that there is still much to learn and teach about, Dr Pimenta is monthly attending for the most important international congress, teaching and discussing the current and new ways of approaching spine treatment.
Several scientific articles and book chapters are written and published by Dr. Pimenta through his experience and criticism, which helps the continuing development of modern medicine. Other than publications, various scientific journals have Dr. Pimenta to review and analyze articles for publication.
Through hiss privileged view on the subject, he is active in the idealization and improvement of various therapies and materials for spine surgery, cervical discs as “PCM” and He always aims to achieve better treatment and rehabilitation of patients.
